Based on their performance attributes, Titleist’s 716 AP1irons would best be described as game-improvement clubs, with high launchconditions, impressive distance, and maximum forgiveness all being part of whatgolfers can expect in terms of playability from this product. A 360° undercutcavity utilized in the design creates a thin, unsupported clubface. The faceflexes more at impact and the result is higher ball speeds on shots struck fromanywhere on the face, a key component in the added distance that the AP1 ironsproduce. As for forgiveness, tungsten weighting helps lower the CG, whichcreates both higher launch and improved stability, and its use along theperimeter of club increases MOI. Also of note, pre-worn leading edges have beenincorporated in the AP1’s design for better turf interaction, and an optimizedCG progression promotes a more consistent ball flight with each club.
