I have used the comp 414 with a Graphite Design Stiff shaft since shortly before it hit the stores. 68 yr. old senior at the time, and have used it since. Distance has decreased, but can still get it to 220-230, but that's not the big advantage. ACCURACY and CONTROL. I play 2-4 rounds a week, various FL layouts, and from the regular mens tee box, and maintain a single digit hcp. Tracking my last 52 rounds, average fairways hit is 11 of 14, and those missed weren't by much. Straightest club in my bag. The 2 degree toe-in has simply excised the slice; it can be faded slightly if you do it right, but is a challenge, and not recommended. My normal hits are straight or slight draw, or a huge draw if needed. Have tried newer models/brands at driving ranges, pro shops and clubs, but wouldn't trade my Cobra Comp 414 even for any of them.Read full review
The 414 Comp is an excellent driver. The ball rockets off the face. I was so pleased with the first one I purchase, I actually purchased another. The first one has the factory 45 gram lightweight shaft. I have always used heavier shafts due to my swing tempo, but with this shaft, a more controled swing delivers more consistant performance with out excessive lose of distance. The second club had been built for long drive competiotions. This is the driver I take when playing in scrambles. The 414cc clubhead is more pleasing to my eye at setup than the larger sizes. Thats just a personal prefrence.
Although I am still learning that testosterone doesn't account for much except to get in trouble, I want to smash that cute little dimpled ball. I take out the Cobra. I have both the 454 and the 414 and like them both. The head(s) seem to me to be a little closed which promotes the long draw which I love. It's easy for me to get carried away if Im not careful and turn it into a hook. It also provides good feedback so you know if it's your swing or which area of the club you hit the ball on. Fairly forgiving. I favor the smaller head of the 414 and I am able to get some great drives with it. I have the stock rayon 45 shaft in stiff flex, standard grip and they seem to be a winning combination. I have a fairly quick swing speed. I love hearing the friends say "There's another Cobra smash" after I usually out-drive the competition. My Dad uses the 454 along with a bunch of his retired buddies...and quite a few of them are hitting the composite head and regular shaft with great results. I would highly recommend this club if you want to grip it and rip it.Read full review
I am a scratch golfer who plays enough to still be single at 32. I have been using titleist 983e driver for about 5 years. There is a spot on the high toe of that club that hits the ball higher with less spin. It feels like a mishit, but the ball goes 20 yards further than a flush. The cobra driver I just bought hits the ball like that every time. I went from hitting the ball 285-310 to consistantly over 320. And then there was the time I found that high toe spot on the cobra. My friends skycaddie read 360, and I had a wedge into a par 5. It took about 3 holes to get used to the different trajectory, and 2 swings to find my normal draw. For the record I have the tour model 8.5 degree with the vista pro 65 shaft which has a high kickpoint. Anyone who has a higher swing speed needs a high kick shaft with this club, as the launch angle is quite high. The other thing I love about this club is the graphite crown muffles the ping sound at contact that all the other cobra drivers have. This club hits the ball as far or farther than the x-speed, and looks smaller and less closed at address, both of which are appealing to me. If you have a slice, the regular (not the tour) would be better. I would gush some more, but I need to get some sleep, and I cant wait to play tomorrow. -Jeremy HolbrookRead full review
When i got one of these I played about 3 rounds and just had to go get another one, since i had finally found the driver that works for me. I've been playing 19 years and have had more than 10 drivers..until now. So, just to let you know.. it's the best i've found. Not fancy, but plays like magic sometimes. I've found it's feel to be much more comfortable than say a calaway or ping. When you hit the ball 80-90% you find it is just what you need. Overpowering, as with any golf club does not fair well. It seems to have magical powers of it's own. I used to hit a predictable hook off the tee.. and now.. It's nice to be 50 yards ahead every par 4 or 5, and right in the middle of the fairway. You should buy 2.. they're fairly inexpensive compared to the new nightmare clubs they have to keep pumping out.Read full review
