Ping i3 oversize U (Utility) wedge is a standard 52-degrees loft with 15-deg bounce. I wanted to make a weak gap/strong sand wedge - a club I could use from both turf and sand. I walk and carry my clubs, so reducing the number of clubs carried is always helpful. For example - cutting four wedges down to two makes a difference in my stamina about hole 14. So the oversize model could be bent down to 50-deg loft and still possess 13-deg of bounce, and the club still worked well out of sand. I found I liked the regular (Blade) model a little better because the sole is a little wider due to the metal not having to be stretched into the bigger size of the O-size clubhead. Ping uses more bounce on their wedges than most manufacturers, so a number of the Ping wedges would work as my weak gap/strong sand wedge: Eye2+, Zing2, ISI, i3+, i20, G2, G5, Rapture, and the old M/B (multi-bounce) wedge. I tried them all and decided the Eye2+ and Zing2 in the beryllium copper were the most versatile, but the M/B and i3 Blade are really good, too. Other brands that can be bent to affect the dual nature of the wedge are the Callaway X-16 and Razr, the Grand Hawk "A" wedge (also sold under the I-Nitro brand - basically Callaway clones), the old Spalding XL-2000 hyper-steel, and Cleveland's CG10 and CG11 wedges. Wilson and Vokey wedges don't have sufficient bounce in/around the 50-deg mark to be the best sand wedges. The old Dual wedges once marked by Wilson, Titleist, and Cleveland generally have lower bounce and just a wider sole for help in the sand.Read full review
Finally used this club. Had a nice feel. Club appears to be well balanced. The shafts flexibility was just right for me. I think I'll enjoy using this club.

The Ping label is synonymous with excellent design and quality in golf clubs. This particular club (gap wedge) is very easy to hit and very easy to get the ball in the air. I needed this wedge to give me a complete set of Ping irons and I'm a happy golfer.

excellant used club Thanks George.... Wedge performs as good as any other sand wedge in the sand. They are only as good as the golfer behind them.......Practice determines the quality of the shot performance. Take a lesson, then spend 5 days in a row for at least 90 minutes working on your stroke, also, change to different clubs 8 9 iron to get a little more roll when the flag is further away., good luck George....
The club I received was not a blue dot. The one I received was a black dot. I chose not to send it back but to put an extension on it. This made the cost of the club extremely high as I had to buy the extension and a new grip.
