I've always played with Pings, I've tried other clubs but always come back to Ping. So after 14 years with my G2's I decided to buy a set of G15's with graphite shafts. I am an eight handicap and play at least 4 times a week during the season. Making the transition to the G15 was very easy, the look was very similar to the G2. They are very forgiving, However, the sound is a little "clunky" and I don't feel the shot coming off the club as well. Having said that I'm not unhappy with them and have no regrets. I would like to compare them to the G25s I have read some reviews that said that the g25 fells a little softer.
Having had around 100 sets of irons in my 30 years of chasing the golf balls around various courses. I have finally settled in to a set of clubs that answers all my deficient needs. Because of a bad back and arthritis, I sent with a Regular Shaft with the standard lightweight Ping Shaft. I have had all the other Ping Irons from Eye2 thru G10, I10 and to date these clubs are very predictable and forgiving. The "Box Groves" really grab the ball, especially on a Prov1 and Prov1x, out of wet deep grass and god forbid Hazards from Volcanic rock to dirt with weeds etc. These sticks are made harder and always look great. I have used the G15s for one season now and these are the best yet. I tried a few demos, but no comparison. The clubs hit higher and can be worked left or right with a tendency to produce a left draw. My suggestion is to get fitted and demo the irons on the range and preferrable the golf course. Range balls are usually 85% and are not as good as the ones out of your bag. Try a set.....you will be pleasently surprised! bill ramosRead full review
Finally I broke down and purchased the new Ping G15 irons (AWT stiff shafts) and for the first time in my life I can at last hold a green with a 4-iron. They are everything I've read about- a half club longer and a nice high ball flight with forgiveness that lets you know when you've missed a shot, but tones down some of the actual punishment for doing so. I got Pings because spinal surgeries combined with my particular swing and posture require me to need 1 1/2" extended shafts and a severe 4+ degree upright lie. Now in two months since receiving them my handicap has gone from a 9 down to a 7 (from the Men's Tees, 6300-6800 yards, not the Pro's) and my GIRs have gone from an average of about 8-9 a round to close to 12 now. After trying out clubs for several months I had narrowed my search down to the TaylorMade R9 and the the Ping I15 and the G15. The TM's felt a little harsher to me and I seemed to get a little higher ball flight with the G15s over the I15s. Low ball flight has always been an issue for me once I got past a 7 iron. I ended up ordering the G15s and have been very, very happy I did. They might not be the prettiest irons out there- they look a bit clunky, but man do they perform! The foursome I play with are now complaining that I need to move back a set of tees because I've been taking all the skins money- and in fact, one of them has just purchased his own set of G15s after watching me knock down flags for the last two months. I got the 3-PW set and to be honest, although I hit the 3 iron a long ways it has a significantly lower flight. I carry it the same distance as my 4 iron, but it rolls about 25-30 yards, so that club pretty much has been replaced by a higher flying hybrid. But that's just me finding the only negative I can in this great set of clubs. Ping's quality and technical know-how are everything they're cracked up to be and my factory order came in two weeks although it was only promised in 4-6. Just can't beat that, either. Go get 'em!Read full review
I have tried several different iron sets in the last few years and I really have grown to like the G15's. I seem to hit the ball higher and the distance is good. I was using Taylormade Burners and Calloway Diablo. I like the G-15's teh best. I have the graphite shafts and they may have a little less feel than steel but I like they way they hit. I would say they are a good choice for the mid to high handicap player. I usually from a 15 -18 hanidcap, 72 years old and refuse to go to senior shafts. Hardheaded for sure. Maybe when I turn 80.
Ping has always been the maker of some of the best golf clubs on the market. The Ping G Series have been designed to really help the average golfer make solid contact and elevate the ball. I have had G2s, G5s and now G15s. While my scores have come down some, with the G15s I'm a little further, more accurate, and my distance control is more precise. I am totally happy with my purchase.
