the over all presintation of the club is great and it is a clean easy driver to stand over. The club itself feels good with a good swing but if your off your mark it punishes you for it really quick! i want to correct alot of people that keep talking about how this head is weighted different then the other r9s so it will have a low flight and low spin and you would be better off if you have a faster swing speed. Part of that is correct, a faster swing speed never hurt with any club as long as it fits the shaft! the head is weighted different for optimal ball flight control but between that and the wegiht ports, if your hitting it in the center of the face and your swinging the right shaft for your ss, tempo, prefurred flight and weight then youve got a winner in your hands....in other words to me it is a great driver as long as you know how to use it!Read full review
Trying to get used to my R-9 driver. I have hit some drives that have really gone further, but the sweet spot does not seem to be really large. I have to learn to swing it easier and hit it in the middle of the club face. If you get off center the hits aren't good at all. It is also easier to hit a draw or a fade with this club. That can be good if you are trying to move the ball, but sometimes it has a mind of its own. I bought some different weights, and plan to play with them to find the right balance that works good for me. The club came with a 16 gram weight that really makes the club heavy. I have taken that weight out and replaced it with an 8 gram. Feels better now.
Too much club for me...unless you swing 110+ mph with ease and tend to hit drivers too high this likely won't be the club for you either. If you do decide to try one I would recommend adding a degree of loft to what you normally use and finding one with a high launch shaft. In my case, I have a Ping G5 10.5 with a ProLaunch Blue Stiff shaft, so that wouldn't be possible for me, but if you have say a 9 degree driver you hit too high, try this in a 10.5 and you might have something that's really workable. My Ping G5 still works great for me most of the year but I wanted a lower trajectory club for when the ground gets firmer. But at 9.5 Stiff this one went way too low for me. The head design promotes low trajectory so for the vast majority of players, I would recommend the Super Tri or the 460 in the Taylor Made R9 series. I am going to try a different shaft to see if it will help the launch angle but overall leave the SuperDeep to the super long and super high strikers of the golf ball. The head looks awesome, very similar to the old R5 series, which I loved, and it was fun to try, but save yourself the bucks and stick to the more conventional R9 clubheads unless you smash it like a pro with your driver.Read full review
low launch and low spin: i usually play 9.5 degree loft but i went with 10.5 with this one. the launch angle is still lower than any 9.5 heads i have ever swung. feel: typical r9 feel. sound: loud metallic scream. distance: compared to my previous drivers, i get less carry with more rolls with this one, overall similar distance. however, that is with 75% swing. i am pretty sure the distance will only increase as i get used to this driver and start swinging harder. forgiveness: if i dont catch the ball on the sweet spot, the punishment is pretty brutal. not a forgiving driver. not for beginners and novices.
I am a 12.4 handicapper who likes to hit the ball as far as I can! I moved from the Tour Burner to the Burner TP to this beast. I bought the 9.5 with s-flex shaft, my longest drive is 306, but tend to get about 280 on most drives. Spent 1 bucket of balls making adjustments and haven't had to readjust again. Ball flies straight with a slight draw, just what I like, although with the adjustablility of this club you can change the ball flight to suit your preference. I recommend this club to everyone I run in to at the course. The sound on impact reminds me of the Square Nike club but more deep, oh and the ball flies much much farther. One warning, while you are waiting for your driver to arrive, practice your short game, your 8-5 irons will be used less with this bad boy!
