This 62st works just a bit different from my 60csx but it only takes a couple of minutes to learn the differences and then I found it easier to use. The 100k topo maps are more than enough for my needs as an active hiker and kayaker. I really like that the power on/off button is located on the side than on the top. Without the carabiner clip attached I found the contoured case of the 62st easier to hold than the 60csx, even with my big hands the 60csx will slip about as I try to operate the functions, this 62st much more stable to hold - that can make a big difference especially with wet/slippery hands. Since I prefer using a lanyard I see the 62st as a great upgrade from my 60csx, I'm keeping both,

I currently work in a combat zone, and GPS is a necessity. I had previously been using the Garmin Rino 530hcx. My rhino suffered a catastrophic failure (no fault goes to the Garmin) and I decided to upgrade. The GPSmap 62st was the device I chose, and I haven't been disappointed. The device is very easy to use, very accurate (usually less than 10 ft), and the battery life is very impressive. Time to first fix is usually less than 10 seconds, and marking waypoints and tracks are a breeze. The device for me is well worth the money, and I believe it would be for a recreational user as well. There are several settings for the recreational user that include a fitness setting that can be used in conjunction with a chest strap HR monitor to track your runs and fitness level. All in all, the GPSmap 62st is an excellent buy, even at the near $600 retail price tag. I highly recommend it for anyone who is in the market for a very functional and versatile GPS receiver.Read full review
Bought this GPS for an upcoming hunting trip to Illinois. At first was a little hard to understand how to use it. But with the online full owners manual. It helped me to understand it better than with the quick version. The more I use it the easier it is to understand how the functions work. From the use in and around locally it gets me within feet of the saved location. So with that walking in a mile should get me close to were im wanting to go.

Bought this GPS to use with a program that tells where boundrys are, ranches, etc. for hunting and locating for my hubby. He loves it for its ease of use, it does what he wanted it to do and is really useful to mark where something has been shot and is down. He has had another GPS and this is so much more useful and retains where he has been and locates where he wants to go also. The program a montana company for the chip has excellent maps that works with this model and recommends this GPS.
This GPS is built very well and is not cheaply made. I have used it several times now and it works great. I have added an additional map (24K West Topo) and it added much more information and detail to the mapping. I use this GPS for hunting, hiking, and on my ATV. I have had a pleasant experience with Garmin's customer service who were very helpful in assisting me with the download of the mapping to my new GPS. If you are looking for a good outdoor handheld GPS, do yourself a favor and try this one.
