The uPro golf GPS has a very simple and smooth interface. Very easy to use, and sometimes I even get the feel that the interface is over-simplified, but certainly has just about every feature you will need. The basic funcionality of giving distances to the front, middle, and back of the greens works excellent, and yardages were very accurate (I used this alongside my smartphone gps app, and old yet reliable gps receiver to verify). With the basic functionality alone, it is worth the price, but I wish they included the Scoring Plus mode with the unit. I paid the extra $20 for the feature, but it was well worth it! You can keep your score plus the rest of your foursome, track greens in regulation, fairways hit, and number of putts for up to 50 rounds. My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE feature in Pro Mode is the tracking distance of every club in your bag. Every shot you take, you simply mark the shot and tell it what club you are hitting, and it tracks the average distance of each club. I would pay $150 for this feature by itsef. I have not found a way to export this information to my computer for more in-depth tracking, but I hope they come out with an update for this. The battery got me through an entire 4.5 hour round of golf and I still had 1/4 battery remaining. I'd like to have a bit more life, but it's serviceable. All-in-all I would give this unit an 8.5 out of 10 with a half point deduction for battery life, extra charge for scoring, and simplicity of interface.Read full review
I wanted this uPro because a friend of mine had one and recomended it. This is my first golf GPS. I researched other GPS's and the uPro was the most economical in the long run. When I did use it for the first time, it was easy to use, the programmed features are easy to navigate and the screen is bright and clear. The distances are precise and right on. It has enabled me to choose the right club for my shots. I give the Callaway Tech support and A+ for their service after I received it and after it failed on me. I am awaiting its return from Callaway after it died and wouldn't recharge. But Callaway Tech service has been great, no hassles, knowledgeable and they understand their customers and are very patient while on the phone with the customers. I could only give a 4/5 rating because of the need for the Callaway Tech services. I would recommend to a friend to buy one that is new in the box.Read full review
After much time spent researching various golf GPS options, I decided to get the Callway Upro. My initial considerations included: Durability - It's designed to take out in elements, which could otherwise be damaging to the usual smartphones that can run GPS apps. Real life experiences bared this out, as the unit has dropped from my bag in hard and wet ground without affecting its screen or performance. Versatility - Having capability for both standard yardage and arial views are very functional. I also like its ability to rotate the green views towards your particular angle of approach. Value - It offers excellent functionality and course availability for its price. Cheaper units can easily become fairly costly with additional course downloads and annual membership fees. All standard course downloads are included with the cost of the Upro; Pro versions are available at approximately $8 each. I only find the latter necessary on courses I never played before. Ease of use - I experienced initial difficulties, mainly because my anti-virus program restricted the syncing process. Temporarily disabling that program eliminatied those problems. The devixce itself is extremely intuitive, and really doesn't even require watching of the user video (although it does show the extensive features provided by the Upro). I think the imaging is better on the premium GPS units, but given the modest price I paid for my Callaway unit I still find what I have with this to be exceptional. What I find I like best is the conscious ability to trust in my swing on lies outside the fairway. That alone has saved me multiple shots.Read full review
I had a SG5 from Skycaddie so it places perspective on this review. My issues with the SG5 was the screen not being as visible in bright sun light, the automatic hole advance was a bit ahead of reality. The general cost to support (golf courses) the unit I thought was a bit high. The visibility in sunlight was the most negative feature for me. The Unit was accurate, durable, and had very nice features. The Callaway is less costly unit, and less costly to operate. It has a screen that more visible in bright sunlight. It has two modes.. Pro with all kind of flyover and visual capabilities, and a basic mode that offers distances but no course layout. The Pro Mode is a bit tedious, but offers good information. The basic mode can piece together most courses well from using the graphic from the scorecard, and the information it offers.. Just like the SG5 the green view is very helpful. Both feature nice web sites full of good information and offering easy to do updates and downloads. The Callaway fits my needs and visibility issues.. The SkyCaddie line SGX and SG5 are still the best units, but the price is high.. The smartphone Golf programs, are threatning to put the other two brands into oblivion.Read full review
Shop Around. Good unit if you can find it for the right price. Pros: Size (small and slim not a distraction) No recurring fees Fairly easy to learn Shot tracking to keep stats and per club stats can help game ($25 extra) Flyover and distance to hole from current position can save strokes. Large course library (can be checked pre-purchase) Battery Life is ample and standard USB charge port. Nice display even in sunlight. Open data format (all data in XML format can be exported for own use -programmer) Cons: Price per course depending on package Additional fee for statistics capability enable No Supplied case and accessories expensive (buy own and best buy phone type) Voice enabled will probably never be although capable. Requires viewing video tutorial on unit. Is not intuitive enough to use Stats without first familiarizing yourself with operation before going to course. Take it to the practice range ;-)Read full review
