Remember when the Beatles stopped making music together? For years, it was great fun and then suddenly it stopped. Having a set of MP-33s by Mizuno is like that. Sure, John and Paul and George and sometimes Ringo made some good music after the break-up, but it wasn't the same. First of all, the MP-33s has a thin line on top at address. Some, like the Callaways, have a thick line on top and all that junk in the back. I love the way a thin club sets up to a ball at address. Second, the feel of the MP-33 is effortless. Struck on the sweet spot, it goes where you want it go, and does what you want it to do. I enjoy the feedback because right away I know when I have hit it pure and when I have hit the ball off-center. Third, the MP-33 helped me become a better player. I went from a 14-handicap to a 9-handicap quickly after ditching my "game-improvement" clubs for a barely-used set of MP-33s. I advise anyone who is struggling to break through into single digits with game-improvement clubs to experiment with a set of blades. And get them bent to fit your swing. Unfortunately, I hate the fact that I can't get a new set anywhere. Sure, the MP Anniversary Edition is supposed to be the same club, but I don't have the thousand bucks it takes to purchase. Even rarer is the used set that has regular flex on the shaft. I just picked up a used set for about $200, but the short irons are about as worn as the set I'm using now. So I keep flipping through eBay every now and then, the same way I flip through old record stores looking for that clean copy of Abbey Road, to see who might be selling a good used set of 33s.Read full review
I started playing golf 12 months ago and I was hitting the ball solid every time but I was using cavity back irons. So I wanted to get a set of blades so I could start shaping the ball a little better like Bubba Watson haha. So I bought a set of Mizuno MP-33's. I can't even tell you how much I love hitting those clubs. The only thing about buying golf clubs on EBay is having enough photos to see how worn the clubs actually are. I got lucky and all the irons I purchased were in great shape except for the 8 iron but I knew that because of the photos that were provided but for the price I paid it was well worth it to me to give them a chance plus I didn't even know if I could hit blades. People had told me they used to have a set of blades and they went to cavity backs because they just couldn't hit them well. That is not the case for me. I have had these blades now for a month and I hit them very well and I will never use another type of iron again except for a blade. When buying golf clubs ask the seller for more pictures and if the clubs have any blemishes if they didn't already provide enough for you to make a good decision about your purchase.Read full review
I bought a set of MP 33's off of Ebay for 175.00. I thought I'd use them to improve my ball striking and frankly I was intimidated by the thought of ever taking blades to the course. But after 1 practice session I have them in my bag. I shoot high 80's or low 90's (to a 15.7 handicap after course rating) and the poorest part of my game has always been irons play from 100+ yards. Now its an area of greater confidence (but still my poorest statistically). These irons feel very soft and the smaller heads promote crisper contact. I haven't had any problems with slicing or hooking. This is the first set that I've been able to hit the long irons well (but you must swing smooth and easy) My distance is about the same maybe a little longer than my Cobra SSi or Callaway x-14's. If you are quiet with your wrists and can hit a straight shot then blades are for you. They are excellent at holding a line and pretty accurate at hitting a reliable distance. I wouldn't look at another set of irons after getting these. Never again will I chase the golden game improvement irons. Buy blades they are very playable even for those of us who aren't low handicappers. The ball flight is high and the landing is very soft. I've improved to 5 green's in regulation average and my misses are greenside not 30 yds short and right.Read full review
great clubs. i switched over from callaway x-14s and it is true it does take some time to get adjusting to these clubs. the fact of the matter is that you do not know how to swing the club properly until you hit these clubs. the blades will make you concentrate more, and also practice more on your swing. if you can hit any golf club properly, then you can hit blades. the feedback you get from blades and steel shafts are priceless, you will learn how to better your swing. blades are also a lot longer than cavity backs. these mp33s are extremely longer than my x-14s. the clubs are heavier, but the added weight is in the clubhead and it helps you with your follow through. the added backspin from the short iron is ridiculous - you get so much spin from these clubs. these clubs are a beauty and has a classic look. overall, i would highly recommend buying blades in general - once you learn how to swing a golf club. you learn how to properly hit a ball, and you look good at it too. i can liken the effects like using a wooden bat versus an aluminum bat in baseball. yes you get great distance from a aluminum bat, even when you miss the sweet spot. but when you use a wooden bat, you become more accurate with your swing, placement, and how to hit a baseball. in the long run, you become a better player with blades. if you can hit any "old" club, you can hit any golf club. technology hasn't changed all that much in irons in 5 or even 10 years. my old callaway x14s were as good as the newest x22s, and these mp33s are as good as the mp63s. the feedback, grip, and feel of the clubs all come down to personal preference. i recommend hitting a few different golf clubs before you end up settling. having a club that you like, makes you a more confident player and that is one less thing on your mind when you're about to swing.Read full review
Alot of reviewers may tell you these sticks are for low handicapers. I actually take the side of those who say these can be used as game improvement clubs. There is a bit of an oversize face when compared to most traditional blades. The muscleback provides sufficient forgiveness and a great sweetspot. The first day on the range with these I hit a bucket of balls on the range, every shot was crap except one ball right on the sweet spot. When you hit these clubs well, which you will start to do if you put in your time, it feels like butter, you cannot feel the impact at all really and the ball just flys. Its a beautiful thing.. There is also just something nice about having these in your bag. They set up nicely and are so clean looking. For me, these clubs were better than any $900 set of irons you can buy new at roger dunn. They forced me to digg deep and fix my swing (over swinging, swaying, not setting up correctly). I hit almost everyball pure when practicing on the range and then just work on distance and the flight. I hit these just as long if not longer than a brand new set of r'7 reg flex irons i had for 6mo. prior to getting these. (these are stiff and I feel like the head is always right there with me, the reg flex felt flimsy) When you shoot PB's with these sticks and not taking a mulligans or any BS, you command respect from your peers and yourself. It is a no non-sense way to truely get down your golf swing. Get some mp33's, hit the range and chipping green as often as possible, and do work. Some background: 5'11" 200lbs, used to hit r7 reg flex, played golf for a year with r7's shooting inbtwn bogey-double bogey golf. Now am shooting mid-high 80's.Read full review
