I have been playing golf for a couple of years and wanted to really work on my scoring game. The only real wedge I had was what looks like a 20 year old Sand Wedge and it plays great. So I had no problem looking at older equipment. What I found on ebay were some great Cleveland wedges. I bought an older 588 gap and a lob wedge. I took the gap wedge (53 degree Diadic) out today. It took me about 30 to 45 minutes but man was I able to dial in with it. It plays beautifully on the chipping green. I set myself up with about 30 yards to a pin that had less than 10 feet of green behind it. I never once carried through the green and at the end was landing within a few feet of the hole. The wedge is just so easy to work with. I paid $15.00 plus shipping: the club is worth so much more in terms of how it plays.Read full review
I just love the feel and response I get from this great wedge. The weighting is perfect and makes it easy to swing the club on the proper plane. The bounce is awesome and really helps get the ball in the air. BackSpin is no longer an issue with me on this club. The rpms this club can generate makes it easy to swing at the flag and stop the ball right were it lands. I would recommed these wedges to anyone looking for an advantage on their short game.
I bought the Cleveland 588 wedge last season on a whim, and the club hasn't left the bag once. The impeccable design along with the ease at which the club squares and makes perfect contact every time makes this a must have for any serious golfer. Cleveland wedges have long since been recognized as the gold standard by which all other wedges are compared and this club is no different. The 588 is not only a quality club for low handicappers, but also those who are in search of elevating their game. In all I would strongly recommend the Cleveland 588 to any golfer (hacker to hole winner)!!!
Cleveland does not make the best putters (although Never Compromise putters are not bad by any means), nor the best woods or irons on the market. Now I have not hit the newer Cleveland irons, but one thing remains the same year after year...Cleveland's Reg 588 Wedges. These wedges are fantastic. They are perfectly weighted, very easy to hit solid shots, and they are very easy to work around the greens. Having hit Cobra, Titliest, and Callaway wedges in the past, I give these wedges the highest praise any wedge can get.
I like the feel of the Cleveland 588 wedges. I began with a 56 in Satin finish to match the look of my custom irons, and later had all the lefty models in that finish. Zip grooves, and Tour-Zip grooves are newer developments I thought might help. There are no local pro shops with demos for these lefty clubs, so I began watching for lower prices on e-Bay. I now have 588's from 48-60 degrees in satin, chrome or black. The 48, 53, and 60 are now in the bag. It's good to have choices with changing weather, mowing conditions and different courses. These all have the same feel, swing-weight and offset, with differing loft or bounce. To see much spin change with the newer grooves requires a relatively soft cover ball. I thing these wedges are the best available today.
