Bought this driver cause I seriously love the same model 3 wood (15 degree loft) which I have been using for a year. Took the driver on it's maiden voyage in late April (a 5 day Myrtle Beach getaway golf trip). I played 6 rounds of golf, and the Callaway Octane started out great... but faded as the week continued. My assessment... I think any shortfalls had more to do with "MY" lack of sleep all week, than the driver itself. I'm not one to blame my equipment, and when my swing was in good form... so were the drives this club produced (250-280yds and I'm a golfer that shoots between 90-105, so by no means a low handicapper). I would recommend this driver.

First off, my sure you get an authentic driver. Too many Callaway fakes. The 10.5 loft/stiff shaft is all carry. I probably hit it around 265 yds carry. Need to find a short cut course to find out about any roll. The trajectory is nice at this loft and I wish it was around 10* loft. I'm 6'-4"/245 lbs. Stiff shaft is ok for me. It sounds hollow and yoy definitely get alot of feedback from the Callaway grip. A new Golf pride tour wrap with extra wrap was help this out. Not too light but is a light weight driver. I'll try the NXT Tour ball to check distance.
Not for everyone, but if you know how to work on golf clubs, removal of the broken ferrule and replacement of same plus a new shaft is pretty straight forward. I now have a near brand new club for a lot less than I would pay for one in as good a condition without the work!

Callaway has a winner with this club. It's one of those clubs that you do not have to work your rear off to control the flight. Has a great feel and it set up great. It also added a few yards on my distance. My old driver has a low kick shaft to get the ball up. The one I bought has a mid kick and the ball get up just as fast and like I said, flies a bit farther.
My previous driver was a Cleveland HiBore XLS Monster which I loved (unable to hit a driver until my Monster). I bought the Diablo Octane fairway woods this spring, liked the set-up and the way I was hitting them so I picked up the driver. Without going to the driving range I hit 8 of 14 fairways the first time out. Once I got the ball positioning corrected due to the added length of the driver (moved it up in my stance) I was hitting it well. Even mis-hits still had distance. The sound is a low ping noise almost like a mis-hit (compared to the Cleveland Monster) but carried well and had great roll. I love the square face angle (closed faces drove me nuts). The club head compared to the Monster felt really light. As they advertise; longer shaft, lighter head, greater swing speed, more distance....amen! Handicap-15Read full review
