It's quite a nice club. It feels solid on hands with a balanced weight, wich I believe is consecuence of the correct marriage between the head and the Fujikura Fit On E 150 Stiff Flex shaft. The impact sound is neat and it's quite forgiving in off center shots. I came form a Cobra L4V with a lighter Diamana shaft and it took me a couple of weeks to get use to the smaller head and the heavier shaft of the Callaway, but I have to say that is definetely a club wich any mid-handicaper can take advantage of their qualities. The pros: Solid club with a very nice impact feel and sound The cons: The head could be a little bigger
I had used a Callaway 460 tour for the past 2 years and tried my wife's ft-5 just for fun. What a club! I really like the way that mine sets up. I have the 9 neutral set up. The stiff shaft is not overly stiff. I'm almost 50 and carry a 2.7 handicap. I think that the shaft could be close to a regular in other clubs. I am able to hit my normal straight shot in the 275-285 range with little trouble. The price for the club is so right. I have hit the ft-tour and ft-9. Both are great clubs, but mine cost about 300.00 less. Give it a try.
This is an awesome driver. Very light yet bangs the hell out of the ball. If you have any kind of slice problem with your driver this would be my first recommendation. Find one of these draw drivers used and give it a shot. This club all but completely ended my slice in one fell swoop. I mean within 2 buckets at the range. It also is very light but gives great feedback. I don't mean necessarily feel in the hands but a clean hit makes a distinctive "ping" and misshits just make a different noise. I have been able to tell what I did wrong just by the sound the club face makes on contact. I'm in love with this club, and I'm not normally a Callaway guy. But you can't argue with results. It goes straight and far. Simple.
Unlike some of the new drivers with triangular and squared shapes, the look of FT-5 driver is very classic. From the top looking down, I could not tell the head was 460cc. It just fits my eyes. All black and sleek finish. As for playability, it is just excellent. The sound is solid, nothing bothersome. Ball flight is on the lower side compared to other 9.5 degree drivers. Very forgiving and good distance. Most of my miss hits ended up in play. No complaints what so ever... No wonder this club made the best club in Golf Digest's equipment review two years in a row. Make sure you get fitted with the right shaft for Callaway offers a variety of choices. I got fitted with Fujikura 360. All in all 10 out of 10!!
I purchased just before winter and didn't get a chance to use it until late Feb. Finally after a long winter, I got to hit my Callaway. I definitely am longer, about 15-20 yrds. when I catch it, and longer when I don't. Bad shots are not as bad as with my other club. I definitely hit it straighter than my last club (Nike Ignite 9.5* stiff shaft.) The sound is different than most other drivers, being as though it has a composite head, however I love the sound, I used to use the Callaway 360cc Fusion so I was looking forward to hearing this kind of club again, only this time in a 460cc head. I am very pleased w/ the club and have only exprienced positive results with my FT-5. Callaway FT-5, neutral bias, 9.5*, with Pershing Graphite Design, S flex shaft.
