I've had the MP 001 for over 5 years, this past summer it finally gave out (cracked along the face in the grooves)I play about 70 rounds a year and hit balls at the range roughly twice a week. So this driver has certainly been hit alot. I've always hit the driver well, not missing the center very often. I've seen buddies buying the new and best driver year after year and I've always tried them and compared them to my Mizuno. There have been a few drivers that I thought I should go and get set up for my swing and hit them in the simulator to give them a fair chance (my swing speed is 125-130 and need a X-stiff shaft) and of the 10 or more that I have tried, none..I mean NONE have been longer than the Mizuno. Some have been right there with it but I've yet to try a driver that has been even 5 yards longer on a hit by hit basis. This past summer, I tried the Titliest D2 and D3, the Callaway Razorhawk, the Cleveland hibore and launcher, and finally the Taylormade R11 (which I currently have) The R11 has been nothing but trouble with all it's adjustable gizzmos on it, I have no idea where it's going on any given shot. In short, I would say I'm one of those "drive for show" guys, always prided myself for being a long ball hitter and with the help of the mizuno mp 001, I have become a very good driver of the golf ball. I'm usually not more than 3 yards at worst off the fairway on a missed shot and anywhere from 285-330 yards from the tee depending on the hole and the wind. This has helped me get down to a 5 handicap and would recommend anyone to buy this club. Just make sure you get a shaft that fits your swing...with any driver that is the KEY to consistent ball strikes. To give you an idea of the potential of this driver, I use a UST ProForce V2 shaft, X stiff 3.3 tip flex, Cut 43.5 inches (standard length) with a 9 degree loft and have hit it 405 yards. With this setup, in a simulator, I usually am 15-20 yards longer then the best clubs I've tried. Ironically the only driver I would say that I've hit as well or even a shade longer is the Nike SQ sumo 5900. (I'm not a fan of Nike, or the Square head or the sound it makes). I have found that with most makes and models it's all "Marketing"...the guys on tour are using tour heads, hot melded and specifically designed for each individual, if you think you can hit like them using their "store" brand generic model because you see them doing it, you're kidding yourself. The most popular brands aren't necessarely the best, but I can tell you without a doubt that this driver is longer than most on the market. Try it...Read full review

A friend of mine asked me to find him an inexpensive driver that would lower his ball flight and increase his distance. I'm very familiar with his game. He plays a big cut, but on balance a good ball striker. The driver to be replaced was a TM Burner 10.5 with the wimpy stock shaft. The problem with the driver for him was that TM builds two different clubs for two different markets. The mass produced one seeks to add forgiveness by squashing the head to a much flatter shape, anticipating that the average golfer will "miss" the ball to right or left of center. Advanced golfers tend to miss high or low of center. My friend was hitting was ball 1/4" from the crown. He needed a deep face driver, and a low launch shaft that would help to subtract the added loft his cut swing was adding. My overall view of equipment is that there is not much difference between heads-- the trick is to build a club that maximizes what you bring to the table. The 001 is a 400cc head, plenty big. I don't think better players need to go bigger, but 460cc won't hurt you either. My friend, the Duke is very happy. This rig- used, cost less than $50. The Taylor Made driver that is hurting him cost him $200. The Grafalloy Prolite was, not ago, the number one shaft on tour. The head is beautiful, classic and the build is first rate. Because of its low torque, I got him a Reg flex. Low torque shafts tend to play a bit stiff to flex. Hope this helps.Read full review
When I got serious about golf, I went to be fit with a driver /shaft combo . I worked with two different pros, one using computer and one with years of good old know how. Both came to almost the same conclusion: For MY Swing speed X flex in Aldila NV 85 gram. One went with 9* KZG head 460cc,other 9* 400cc Mizuno MP-001.Bought both clubs and have since sold KZG. The Mizuno hits higher and longer with identical loft. Graphite crown puts more weight lower in the sole and for me gets the ball up with much LESS spin (1600to1900)I recently purchase my second (backup) Mizuno MP-001 on e-bay and plan to hit it long and almost straight for years to come. Thanks Andyk
I've played the MP-001 10 degree, 400cc driver for a little over a year and it is one fantastic club. Along with the Orlimar HipTi/HTi, it is the longest driver I have hit, and it is very accurate. Unlike many composite drivers, it has a very satisfying pop at impact--like hitting a steel club. Beautiful club, too--very class midnight blue crown. The only reason I'm not playing it now is that I need to go to a stiffer shaft (I currently have the Exsar 60 in R flex), so I will probably go to the 460cc instead with at least an S shaft. Reviews in the golf magazines say that the 460 plays to less loft than listed, so if you normally hit a 10 you should play at least a 10.5 or 11, according to the reviews. You can't go wrong with this driver, at far less than you would pay for Callaway or Taylor Made--which is odd, becasue Mizuno irons are fairly pricey. Great club, great price--Fore!Read full review
I've been searching for a driver for over a year. I've hit 30+ and was almost sold on the Callaway FT-3, BUT while on a golf trip in Myrtle, I tried a guys mp-001 3 wood and that was all she wrote. With a nice controlled swing I was hitting it 240+ so when I got back home I bought one off ebay. With a smooth swing I hit the club better than I've ever hit a fairway wood and have reached several par 5's I've not been able to before. Now about the driver, I thought if I hit this 3 so well I'll try a mp-001 driver before I spend 250.00 on the FT-3. What a great move. I've been hitting more fairways than ever before in fact, when I usually miss one it's because I hit through the fairway. I bought the 400cc driver off ebay for 80.00. The driver has the green Aldila NV-65 Stiff. It's 9 degrees and hits more boring than the others I've tested, but have been averaging 265-300 yds depending on the day, and what hurts when I wake up. I just bought a matching 5 wood and will be hitting it tomorrow. The 3 and 5 wood have the Exsar 60 stiff shaft. I am a 8 handicapper and a golf enthusiast. The 3 I bought for 80.00 and the 5 for 63.00. Good luck and go STEELERS!Read full review
