Measures about 45 1/4" TOUR ISSUE OBAN DEVOTION 6 S - stiff flex low mid launch, low spin, flat trajectory premium graphite shaft from an industry leader - a $500 msrp and $190 upgrade from Callaway and favorite ON EVERY TOUR !! The OBAN Devotion was one of the original shafts introduced by Oban. They come in 4 different weights plus a hybrid version. Designed to for mid launch and low spin; as with many shafts they vary in launch and spin as the weights change. As with all Oban shafts they do not use words for flex, they use a number system from 1-6 to designate flex. The 45 model ranges in weight from 46 t0 49 grams, and is offered in 1 to 4 flex. It runs much softer than the rest of the line with a very smooth feel and high launch high spin launch conditions. The 55 model is 53-59 grams and is available in 2-5 flexes. As the weight s starts to get heavier flexs get stiffer and the launch and spin come down, the 55 is still a mid to high spin and launch shaft. The 65 version is 66-69 grams and available in 3-6 flexs. It is one of the best mid 60 gram shafts for lowering spin while keeping the smooth feel of the devotion line. The 65 runs much stiffer then the two lower models, even for the highest loader of the shaft the 5 flex will be sufficient, in the many years of fitting this shaft we have not had the need to use the 6 flex in any of the versions of this shaft. Overview/Technology- Oban is a relative newcomer on the block but that does not stop them from becoming a major player in the shaft world. The Oban Devotion is one of those highly praised shafts to come along that oh by the way, includes Jim Furyk as a client. The Oban Devotion is a very diverse shaft with regard to weight in fact, probably one of the most diverse weve seen ranges between 43 grams (extremely lightweight) to 84 (upper scale for sure). The actual design remains consistent throughout the range of weight classes. However the Torque and Kick points change by weight with a firm Tip, Butt and Mid sections. Because of the wide range of weight classes, it makes sense to classify models by weight Devotion 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. The Devotion 4 & 5 is suited for the golfer seeking higher ball flight and launch and spin best suited for slower swing speeds. While the Devotion 6, 7, and 8 progressively gets a tighter/lower ball flight with a lower spin rate, ideal for players that load their shaft and/or quicker tempo. Actual Player response- I am already quite impressed I am really really enjoying the consistency that this shaft is giving me right now I really like the look of the shaft and it feels really good with nice dispersion Pros/Positives- Wide range of weight classes makes this an extremely diverse shaft. The Devotion is an extremely stable shaft that remains consistent throughout the swing. And with a growing number of advocates, one of them a top 10 world golfer, its ripe for some devotion. Cons/Negatives- Not a well known shaft, which makes the Oban not a widely distributed and easily accessible shaft for the masses. Overall Rating- The Oban Devotion has all the makings of a great shaft, already is by many standards. As mentioned, Jim Furyk has taken a liking to the Devotion 7. The Devotion is certainly growing in leaps and bounds and is becoming a very popular shaft with good reason. Callaway Big Bertha B 21 Unlock Your Inner Distance If you want to hit the ball farther, you have to hit it straighter. And to help eliminate your slice or big miss, weve created our first high launch driver with an ultra-low forward CG for low spin. Its a new formula for distance to give you a more consistent ball flight, and more tee shots that find the fairway. Fast Ball Speeds From Our A.I. Designed Flash Face SS21 Weve advanced our A.I. designed Flash Face to promote fast ball speeds across a more expansive area. So youll still hit it a long way, even when you miss the center of the face. Easy To Hit From Bertha Shaping And Added Draw Bias Built to improve your launch angles, and stop your slice. The large Big Bertha head is specifically engineered with internal draw bias weighting for a straighter, longer ball flight. Super Strength Materials For High, Consistent Ball Speeds Promotes optimal speed, forgiveness and spin characteristics from a face architecture that's extremely strong and lighter than traditional titanium. Jailbreak + T2C Triaxial Carbon Crown For Ball Speed and Unconventional Forgiveness Two internal Jailbreak bars connect the sole and crown to promote fast ball speed, and the significantly lighter carbon crown allows us to redistribute weight for higher MOI. Built to combat the all too common slice, the Callaway Big Bertha B21 driver delivers straight distance. Low spin and excellent forgiveness with distinctive looks. Introduction Big Bertha is one of the great names in golf equipment. Launched in 1991, the all stainless steel club head ushered in the new age of metal woods. Over the years, the size has grown substantially and the materials have become more exotic, but the soul of Big Bertha remains focused on making golf more enjoyable. Now, even with their stellar MAVRIK driver lineup [check out all our reviews HERE], Callaway adds the Big Bertha B21 giving golfers another option for matching their needs. The comfort of a familiar name and the hope 21 brings thanks Callaway. Looks Exposed carbon fiber weave isnt anything new, but Callaway hit it out of the park with the blue of the Big Bertha B21. The triangular shaped head is reminiscent of the Big Bertha Fusion, but with better balance and overall visual appeal. The chevron aim point and red pinstriping really pop and complete a powerful look at address. Most notable is the lack of offset, a feature I expected to find in a draw biased driver. The face of the B21 is tall and inviting with an almost square appearance. The sole is somewhat busy with numerous recessed areas and finishes. The deep metallic blue does coordinate well with the crown as do the red accents. Overall the Big Bertha B21 has a distinctive look both in the bag and in your hands. Sound & Feel The Big Bertha B21 driver produces a staccato metallic crack thats a medium plus in volume. The sound is markedly consistent across the face and although distinctive, doesnt draw attention. With the stock Callaway RCH 65 regular shaft, the club felt very balanced throughout the swing. At impact the head felt stable and invoked the word POW as if Batman had landed a punch as the ball left the tee. To my hands, response was marginal as would be expected from a large, forgiving face. Performance My normal golf swing produces a slight draw which typically gets exaggerated by draw biased clubs, so I was a bit perplexed when that didnt happen with the Big Bertha B21 driver. Ball flight was straight and stayed right of center. Opening up my stance a bit for a fade, once again the ball flew straight but held left of center. With a little more tinkering I was hitting drives straight down the fairway. If youve been compensating for a slice or a push by aiming down the left side, youre going to enjoy aiming at your actual target with the B21. As I looked over the launch monitor data collected at Club Champion, smash factor really stood out. Even while working out how to hit the driver, the lowest smash was 1.49. Matt Saternus and I both marveled at the Flash Face SS20 utilized in the MAVRIK lineup, and the Flash Face SS21 version on the Big Bertha B21 is equally impressive. To assist in the delivery of strong ball speed and forgiveness, Callaway also implemented their proven Jailbreak and a T2C Carbon Crown technologies. Along with internal weighting, Callaway utilized low spin for the slice busting, straight ball flight design of the Big Bertha B21 driver. The low and forward CG definitely produced low spin throughout my testing. My trajectory was a bit low with the 10.5 loft which is likely attributable to the combination of low spin and shaft dynamics. The B21 driver does have an adjustable hosel for fine tuning, but dont be afraid to try the 9 or 12.5 models. Conclusion It took some time to figure this driver out, but in the end it seemed that Callaway had indeed developed a new formula for straightening out tee shots. Comfortable and confident with the B21, I ratcheted up my swing to 87 mph and cranked out a 240 yard beauty really solid for my game. The Big Bertha B21 driver adds another great option to the Callaway driver arsenal.
